Food OEE Software: 4 Tools for Food and Beverage Plants (2026)

Key Takeaways
Food OEE software measures availability, performance and quality on food and beverage lines from machine data, and shows where the planned time went. On a food line, cleaning takes real line time, so the test is whether the tool can show it clearly.
- Split the cleaning. CIP, allergen changeovers and washdown need their own stop reasons, or they vanish into one bar.
- Agree the rule first. Decide which of them count against availability and which are planned, then keep that rule on every line.
- Check the data source. PLC, sensor or camera, it has to work in your wet areas and cover the line you care about.
We sell one of the 4 tools below: Fabrico, a cloud-based MES and OEE platform. New to the metric? See OEE explained and how to calculate OEE, or book a demo to see it on your line.
Where food lines lose OEE: CIP, allergen changeovers and washdown
These three losses are what set a food line apart from most discrete lines. The lines below are general plant practice, not figures: how long each one takes on your line is yours to measure.
| Loss | What happens on the line | How to count it in OEE | What to test in a tool |
|---|---|---|---|
| CIP (clean in place) | Production stops while rinse, detergent and sanitising steps run through pipes and tanks. The length can change with the product. | A planned stop still counts as availability loss under the standard OEE definition. Some plants take scheduled cleaning out of planned production time instead, and count only an overrun. Pick one rule and write it down. | Can it show CIP apart from other cleaning, and an overrun against your normal cycle? |
| Allergen changeover | Moving from a product with an allergen to one without takes a deeper clean, then a check such as a swab or rapid test before release. A change between similar products usually takes less. | A changeover, so it normally counts as availability loss. Log it apart from ordinary changeovers, or the average hides it. | Can you split changeovers by type, by product and by shift? |
| Washdown | Wet cleaning of the line between runs or at the end of a shift. The loss can run past the wash itself: drying, restart, first product off spec. | Agree which part is planned. Slow running and scrap after the restart still count in performance and quality. | Do the sensors, connectors and camera mounts suit your wet areas? What happens to the count during the wash? |

Why the rule matters: if one plant takes CIP out of planned production time and another does not, the first shows a higher OEE with the same output. Compare lines only on the same rule.
For the line-level picture, read OEE for food and beverage. Packaging lines have their own checks in OEE software for high-speed packaging lines.
How Fabrico handles these losses
Stop reasons come from your own list, so CIP, allergen changeover and washdown can be separate reasons, by machine and shift.
Stops and counts come from a PLC, an IoT device with an external sensor on machines with no PLC, or AI cameras at stations with no machine signal, and the operator tags the cause. Which one fits each machine is agreed with the Fabrico team before installation.
What Fabrico does not do: it does not run your food safety program or validate your cleaning. Job dispatching, BOMs, routings and genealogy stay in your ERP.
4 food OEE tools, by where the data comes from
This table shows what each vendor's own site says, in our words. It is not a rank, and a blank on a site says nothing about what a product can do, so ask each vendor directly.
| Tool | Data sources named on its site | Food on its site | Source, checked 3 November 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fabrico (our product) | PLC, IoT device with external sensors, AI cameras | Food and FMCG lines named on its site | Machine connectivity |
| Factbird | Plug-and-play devices and sensors, PLC integration, OPC UA, a vision system called Factbird VIEW | Food and beverage page | factbird.com |
| Redzone | Machines, ERP and SCADA through an API or IoT sensors | Food and beverage page | rzsoftware.com |
| Worximity | TileConnect by dry contact cable, or a machine signal from a PLC, an API or a photoelectric sensor | Food and beverage processing listed as a solution | worximity.com |
How to choose: 4 questions for each vendor
- Show our cleaning. Can CIP, allergen changeover and washdown each be a separate reason on a real line, by shift?
- Show the math. With scheduled CIP inside and outside planned production time, how does the OEE figure change?
- Walk the wet area. Which device goes on which machine, and where does it sit during a wash?
- Name what stays elsewhere. Which records stay in your ERP or food safety system?
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best food OEE software?
The one that shows your cleaning losses apart, on your data sources, by line and shift. Test it on one representative line. We sell Fabrico, so ask every vendor the same 4 questions above, including us.
Does CIP count against OEE?
Under the standard definition, yes: cleaning is a planned stop and an availability loss. Some plants take scheduled CIP out of planned production time, which raises the figure with the same output. Keep one rule, or lines and plants cannot be compared.
Can Fabrico connect to filling line PLCs?
Yes, over OPC UA, Modbus, PROFIBUS, PROFINET, EtherNet/IP or EtherCAT. Older machines can use an IoT device with an external sensor, and AI cameras cover stations with no machine signal.
How long does a rollout take in a food plant?
Installing and connecting devices takes about 1 month, and a full rollout takes 3 to 4 months. Your team gets live and on-site training along the way.
A side note on maintenance and audits
Maintenance management (CMMS) is built into Fabrico as a complement. A stoppage reason can be configured to open a maintenance task automatically, and cleaning routines can run as recurring tasks.
For audit requests there is a history per machine, an audit log and Excel export. These support your records, and your food safety program stays yours.
