No close clearances or rotating parts sit in the wetted path, so AODD pumps suit fluids that would damage a centrifugal impeller or mechanical seal:

  • Solids-laden fluids (slurries, sludges, pigmented paints) pass through large check-valve openings, not tight rotor clearances.
  • Viscous fluids run at reduced but predictable flow, since displacement is positive rather than velocity-dependent.
  • Shear-sensitive fluids (food emulsions, polymers, biological media) see gentle displacement, not high-speed impeller action.

Air Consumption and Efficiency

The main operating cost of an AODD pump is compressed air. Exhaust Icing and Stalling

Compressed air cools sharply as it expands through the pump and exhaust muffler.
