Manufacturing Productivity Software: 5 Platforms Compared (2026)
TL;DR
Manufacturing productivity software helps a plant get more good output from the machines and people it already has. The five platforms below raise productivity through different levers: the machines (losses and OEE), the frontline teams (daily routines and engagement), the flow of work (dispatching people to problems) and the station (apps and instructions).
- For most plants the biggest lever is asset productivity: the hours each line loses to stops, slow running and scrap.
- You cannot improve what you cannot see. Pick a platform that records stops from the machine, with the cause added at the line, not from memory at the end of the shift.
- Fabrico is a light MES built around that lever: machine data, downtime by cause and OEE by line and shift.
- Each vendor description comes from the vendor's own website, checked on 21 October 2026. Fabrico is our product.
- Start on one pilot line, prove the recovered output, then scale.
Three kinds of manufacturing productivity
Productivity is output divided by the resources it took. In a plant, three kinds of resource matter, and software can help with each.
| Productivity of | Measured by | Where it is lost |
|---|---|---|
| Machines and lines | OEE: availability, performance and quality | Breakdowns, changeovers, short stops, slow cycles, scrap |
| People | Output per person or per labor hour | Waiting, searching, paperwork, walking to find the problem |
| Process | Throughput, first-pass yield | Rework, bottlenecks, poor line balance |
In most plants the machine side is where the hours are, and it is also the easiest to measure. Our guide to productivity vs efficiency explains how the two measures relate, and our guide to OEE calculation shows how to put a number on the machine side.
5 manufacturing productivity platforms at a glance
Fabrico is listed first because it is our product. The other four are in alphabetical order, not ranked.
| Platform | What the vendor calls it | Main productivity lever | Built for, per the vendor |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fabrico | Light MES, MES and OEE software | Machine losses: stops with causes, micro-stops, OEE | FMCG, food and industrial manufacturing groups |
| L2L | Connected Manufacturing Operations Platform | Dispatching people to problems, with work instructions and maintenance | Automotive, industrial materials and packaging |
| MachineMetrics | Operations system for discrete manufacturing | Machine data from CNC and PLC controls | Discrete manufacturing |
| Redzone | Connected workforce solution | Frontline teams working from live OEE | Food and beverage, CPG, life sciences, automotive and more |

1. Fabrico
Disclosure: Fabrico is our product.
What it is: a light MES, the monitoring and OEE layer of an MES. It raises asset productivity by showing, line by line and shift by shift, where planned time turns into lost output and why.
How it raises productivity
- Stops with a cause: recorded from the machine with their start and duration, and operators tag the cause on a tablet or phone.
- Hidden losses made visible: micro-stops detected from the machine signal, including stops too short to write down, and slow cycles counted as performance loss.
- Losses in money: the pilot measures a line's losses in money, so the team acts on the highest-value ones first.
- Less time on reporting: output, stops and OEE per shift appear on a screen or phone, so the morning meeting starts from the numbers instead of collecting them.
- Faster response: a supervisor who sees a line standing still can go there during the stop, and a technician can open a work order straight from it (built-in CMMS).
- Any machine: PLC, an IoT device with external sensors, or AI cameras at manual steps.
Results customers report
On the Fabrico product page, Ficosota raised factory-wide OEE from 53.1% to 59.6%, ABB reduced downtime by 20%, and a European defence manufacturer raised OEE from 20% to 62% in three months, with 96% less time spent on reporting.
Things to consider
- Production planning and scheduling are on the Fabrico roadmap, not in the product today.
- Fabrico measures machine and line productivity. Labor time and attendance stay in your HR or ERP system.
2. L2L
What it is: "L2L is the Connected Manufacturing Operations Platform that eliminates downtime and increases productivity," in L2L's words.
What L2L highlights
- Dispatching that assigns and tracks tasks from machine alerts, so the right person moves to the right problem.
- OEE and the Six Big Losses in real time, from PLCs, SCADA and IIoT devices or from operator entry.
- Digital work instructions and checklists on operator tablets.
- Maintenance with preventive schedules and work orders in the same system.
- Scheduling of production, maintenance, audits and gemba walks, with ERP connections including Oracle and SAP.
Things to consider
- L2L is modular, and L2L says it can replace an MES in most plants. Agree how much of that your first phase needs.
3. MachineMetrics
What it is: MachineMetrics describes its platform as "one platform, running on real-time machine data, purpose-built for discrete manufacturing."
What MachineMetrics highlights
- Machine connectivity over OPC UA, FOCAS, MTConnect, EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP and MQTT, with I/O adapters for older equipment.
- Downtime detected from machine data with no minimum duration, so short stops are recorded too.
- Utilization, OEE, downtime and setup reports out of the box.
- Shift summaries generated from machine data, and job documents that appear when a job begins.
Best suited to
Discrete manufacturers, including job shops, contract manufacturers and medical device, automotive and aerospace suppliers.
4. Redzone (a QAD company)
What it is: Redzone calls itself a connected workforce solution and says "Redzone Productivity is OEE software built for manufacturing frontline teams."
What Redzone highlights
- Live OEE for every line, cell and shift.
- Downtime and throughput collected automatically, with automatic Pareto charts of top losses.
- Further modules for maintenance, scheduling, compliance and learning.
- Web, iOS and Android, delivered as SaaS.
Best suited to
Redzone says it is deployed in more than 2,000 factories across food and beverage, automotive, CPG and life sciences.
5. Tulip
What it is: Tulip describes itself as "the frontline operations platform manufacturers use to transform how their operations work, with the people who run them at the center."
What Tulip highlights
- Digital work instructions built without code, showing the right information at each step.
- OEE from machine states over OPC UA or MQTT, combined with operator reason codes.
- Andon-style alerts when a line stops or OEE drifts out of target.
- Genealogy and traceability captured at the point of work.
Things to consider
- Ask which apps fit your process as delivered and which your team would build and maintain.
Who should pick what
- Pick Fabrico if your productivity problem is lost machine and line time, and you want stops, their causes and OEE by line and shift, proven on one pilot line first.
- Look at L2L if the bottleneck is getting the right person to the problem, with instructions and maintenance in the same platform.
- Look at MachineMetrics if your floor is CNC and discrete work.
- Look at Redzone if engaging frontline teams around daily performance is the main goal.
- Look at Tulip if productivity is lost at manual stations and you want to build apps for them.
How to start: one line, one number
- Connect one representative line, ideally the bottleneck.
- Measure its losses in money for a few weeks, with a cause on every stop.
- Act on the highest-value loss, with a named owner.
- Prove the recovered output, then extend to the next line with the same rules.
Our guide to light MES explains what that first layer covers and what stays in your ERP.
Frequently asked questions
What is manufacturing productivity software?
Software that helps a plant get more good output from its existing machines and people, by measuring where time and output are lost and helping teams act on it.
Is productivity the same as OEE?
No. OEE measures how well a machine or line uses its planned time. Productivity is broader: output per resource, which also covers people and process. OEE is usually the best place to start because machine losses are the largest and the easiest to measure.
Can I raise productivity without new machines?
Usually yes. Most lines lose a large share of their planned time to stops, slow running and scrap. Recovering part of that time raises output from the machines you already own.
How quickly can a productivity platform show results?
The first losses are visible as soon as a line is connected and stops carry causes. With Fabrico, installing and connecting the devices on your machines takes about one month, and the full rollout is complete in 3 to 4 months.
